We are a collective of newsrooms and nonprofit partners that believe strong local journalism is critical for healthy communities. Maine is fortunate to have such a strong base of independent journalism in many regions of the state. Our missions compel us to work together to protect and improve this unique ecosystem of independent news organizations to better serve the people of Maine.

Amjambo Africa exists to help immigrants thrive in Maine, educate the public about the African diaspora, describe the challenges faced by all immigrants as they are in the process of relocating as well as after resettlement, increase awareness of the connection between current conditions around the world and migration, and advocate for the wellbeing of all immigrants and people of color in Maine. We are a multilingual publication.

We were founded in 1889 and have been owned by the same family ever since. We strive to be a trusted guide to the state we all love, and provide the essential civic service of investigative and accountability journalism. The Maine Monitor is a nonprofit investigative and explanatory newsroom that delivers fearless, independent, citizen-supported, nonpartisan journalism that informs Mainers about the issues impacting the state and inspires them to take action.

Founded in 1964, Penobscot Bay Press provides information products and services to the people of the Stonington, Deer Isle Blue Hill, Castine, Bucksport and surrounding communities with weekly news of governmental, civic, business and educational institutions; coverage of social doings and in-depth looks at individuals and events; notification of meetings and happenings; opinions of our staff and opportunity for opinions of others on the important issues and problems facing the communities.

Saco Bay News is an independent news site founded in 2020 with a mission to provide current, reliable news to the Southern Maine communities of Saco, Old Orchard Beach and Biddeford.

The Quoddy Tides newspaper was established in Eastport, Maine, in 1968 to provide news of local and regional significance to the people who live on both sides of the border around Passamaquoddy Bay and to provide a forum for voicing their concerns.

Since 2000, the Unity Foundation has supported mission-driven nonprofits in Maine through capacity-building initiatives, organizational assessment, programmatic grantmaking and nonprofit management education
